August 10, 2012The Center for Disease Control (CDC) released a map detailing adult obesity prevalence for all U.S. states in 2011. The South had the highest prevalence of adult obesity at 29.5 percent, followed by the Midwest at 29 percent, the Northeast at 25.3 percent and the West at 24.3 percent. In 2008, medical costs associated with obesity were estimated at $147 billion; the medical costs for people who are obese were $1,429 higher than those of normal weight.
